Why Is Search Engine Optimization Important?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a massive unproven internet science. Like all sciences that have yet to be proven you will find people swear they have found the answer, whilst others will disagree and promote their own theories. You will find many search engine optimization testimonials around the internet and discover many SEO tutorials so I will let you decide which ones you wish to follow.

Whilst I don’t profess to be an expert on SEO, I do know the importance of using the correct keywords to attract targeted visitors to my sites. Therefore in this post I will share my findings with you.

So, why are keywords important?

You know that people who are searching for information on the internet use the major search engines like Google to do so. All you therefore need to do is make sure that people find your information when they are looking for the kind of thing that you offer, as opposed to finding information about your competitors.

You do this by keyword targeting all of the promotional materials that you are subsequently going to publish. The necessary step immediately before getting to that stage is researching the keyword terms that people use in order to find information like yours.

Initial research

Keywords are the words or phrases that people will use when they are searching for specific topic related information on the net.

When they do so using a search engine, that search engine will display a page of results that have been called up by matching the search term to a keyword in a paid-for advert (on the right-hand side of the results page) or in an article, a video, or on the website (on the left side).

The objective of your initial research is to find the keyword terms that people are using to search for information like yours.

Imagine that you have decided to build an online business around your first love, fly fishing. The first thing that you need to know is, is there anybody searching for fly fishing information on the internet? A quick look at the free Word Tracker keyword research tool immediately demonstrates that there are lots of people searching for information related to fly fishing:

engine search optimization

There are approximately 2600 people searching Google every day for information that is somehow related to fly fishing. This suggests that there is scope for building an online business focused on this particular marketplace.

However, if you want to pull visitors from the major search engines, you need to establish what levels of competition you’re going to be up against when you attempt to do so. The hotter the competition is, the harder it is going to be for you to drive traffic to your web site using any particular keyword term, so this is also a critical factor.

For instance, from the previous screenshot you can see that the most popularly searched term is ‘fly fishing’ itself, which draws nearly 500 Google searches every day. In order to establish what the competition for this phrase is, run a standard Google search using this particular term enclosed in inverted commas (“-“), as this ensures that you display only web pages that feature an exact match:

With 13 million web pages displayed for this term, the competition is way too tough for you to stand any realistic chance of getting a new fly fishing website featured on the first results page, which is ideally where you want to be in order to secure maximum visitor numbers.

The next term in the Word Tracker popularity chart ‘fly fishing knots’ is also drawing some reasonable traffic numbers, so let us check this one on Google as well:

This is a far more reasonable number, as what you are ideally looking for is keyword search terms that register less than 30,000 competing web pages. With 45,500 competitors, this is a search term that it is not necessarily going to be easy to pull traffic from but neither is it impossible.

Here is a very good one, with 74 searches every day:

Now, it is simply a question of testing every individual phrase returned in the top 100 by the free Word Tracker tool to build a list of fly fishing related terms like this.

I hope that explains a way to discover low competition keywords. You should then use these keywords in your domain name, H1 & H2 Titles, meta keywords and description, and sprinkle them about your sales page using a density of 4-5%.

Also use Latent Symantic Indexing (LSI). Google likes LSI, which is alternatives to your keyword.  For example if your keyword was acne, then LSI words would be pimple, zit, skin blemish, skin scars etc.

You can find LSI words by searching your keyword on Google with ~ (it’s above the # key) in front, eg ~acne, the resulting LSI words would be shown bold in the Google search results. Go and give it a try.

However researching keywords is too time consuming for some. If you are one of the people who like to discover short cuts, then I certainly have a recommendation for you, which will give you more time to have available for other aspects of building your passive income business.

I’ve found a new course on creating zero cost traffic. If you can use a keyboard, you can do this.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with advertising, SEO, Adwords, Adsense or PPC … you can take it from me that you WILL NOT have to pay a penny in advertising and that you have not heard or seen of this before; you can 100% trust me when I say that NO ONE ELSE has a system even remotely like this!

Starting right now YOU can use this very same strategy to
substantially boost traffic to your website, any website,
affiliate links, articles, you name it!

This is a zero cost Traffic Strategy that will drive a
super-highway of traffic predominantly from Google … Yes,
Google!

Any one can do this.
